How Much Space For Drapery and/or Window Treatment Rods?

For example, you need to know how much room you will need between your blackout and sheer drape. Or if you have a roller shade and a sheer drape, etc. To keep it simple, you should always consider 3 inches of space between your window treatments (including the wa

    Replacing Drapery With Current Hardware

Note: This only applies to pinch pleat drapery! Most of the time our clients ask if we can use their current hardware (which is a good way to save money). The answer is yes, it is possible. Thankfully, there are only a few factors to consider. 1. What kind of stiffener do you have? We use a plastic and grommet hardware that leads the drapery the way they open/close and they are called stiffeners. The stiffener is sewn onto the drape and is then attached to the master carrier

Wall-To-Wall Drapery: Will It Work For You?

Wall-to-wall drapery can really spruce a room. However, it is not ideal for all properties to have this feature. Do consider wall-to-wall drapery if: -Your budget allows it (more fabric, wider hardware) - You have a larger window that takes up over 50% of your wall space. -You want to create an illusion of a longer and wider room. - Want to block as much light as possible. - Design of room compliments well with wall-to-wall drapery. Most of our clients who use wall-to-w

Drapery Pinholes & What To Do About Them.

Blackout drapery creates privacy, noise reduction, UV light decrease, and a more comfortable experience for guests. Have you noticed your blackout drapes have little holes where light spills through? When making a blackout fabric it involves layers, or “passes”, of aerocellular acrylic foam. A 2-pass blackout is produced by applying 2 layers of foam to the fabric and a 3-pass blackout will receive 3 layers of foam. You can read more about this here. Sometime you will notice l

Top Treatments For Drapery & Roller Shades

Clients frequently ask us which top treatment is best for their windows. The first step is to identify each one and then see which works best for you. A cornice box is made out of wood and then is either upholstered and covered with a fabric or painted/stained with a color. Cornice boxes are a great option if you want something solid and sturdy. It allows your window treatment to remain fully operational. Cornice boxes are a great way to hide hardware, block more light, and t

    DRAPERY BATONS 101

Did you know you have options when it comes to the baton (stick) that carries the drape to open and close? Before getting into your baton choices, be aware you have the option to use a corded drapery track or motorized drape if you don't want to use batons, however please check brand or specific guidelines when using these alternatives. Option 1: You can hide the baton behind the drape. (con: guests don't see the baton so they drag the drape with their hands, and we don't rec

    Chained or Traditional Hem?

The bottom hem on the drape is the bottom part of the curtain that usually folds over and is sewn to create a border. Many clients do not know they have an option when it comes to picking out what kind of bottom hem they want. Most projects use double or traditional hem but many people like the features of the chain hem. Traditional Hems: 4” double fold with straight blind stitching. (left photo) Chain Hems: ¼”Rolled Hem over a beaded chain weight is available upon request.

    Drapery Returns: What Are They?

A drapery return is the last pleat or part of the drapery that wraps around the drapery rod corner and returns to the wall. Returns vary on width size because each project has different projections of the hardware to the wall. Returns are a great way to block any light that comes from the corners of a window. If you have drapery treatments that are wall to wall you will not need returns as the fabric will hit the corner of the wall blocking the light. A drapery return can ach

Drapery Stack Back. What is it? Is It Important?

We always ask our clients, "do you care what way your drapery "stacks" when you pull the drapery back to let the light in?" Also, a client might have a view they don't want blocked. This matters because when you close the drape, the fabric that "stacks" together can block a view or a certain amount of space. Once you know if you have any elements that will rule what way your drapery has to stack, you have to decide wether to make the drapery either center-draw (two panels of
